Otero College's basketball standout, Itxasne Fernandez Arguello, has been named the NJCAA Region 9 Player of the Week for her exceptional performances from October 31 to November 10. The 6'2" sophomore from Castro-Urdiales, Cantabria, Spain.
Over the five-game stretch, Itxasne, widely referred to by her nickname 'Chazz', showcased her basketball prowess by averaging 27.6 points per game, along with 6 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block. Her shooting accuracy has been remarkable, maintaining a 58% field goal percentage, 40% from the three-point line, and 73% at the free-throw line.
Chazz scored a career-high 44 points against Seward County, to go a long with 8 rebounds, and contributed significantly in other games, scoring 31 points against Garden City and 26 points in the second matchup against Garden City.
Coach Kyle Herring praised Chazz's dedication and improvement, particularly emphasizing her strong start to the season. "Chazz has come out and played really well to start the season. She has worked hard in the offseason to improve her game and is now starting to reap some of the rewards. I couldn't be happier for Chazz!" said the coach, reflecting on her outstanding contributions to the team.
